The "Florida Birth-Related Neurological Injury Compensation Act"
is a law passed by the Florida Legislature in 1988. The initials
"NICA" are sometimes used to refer to the "Neurological Injury
Compensation Act," and sometimes used to refer to the "Neurological Injury
Compensation Association," which is the quasi-state agency created to
administer the NICA program. The whole program is also sometimes
referred to as the "Florida Birth Related Neurological Injury
Compensation Plan."
